measles

On Memorial Day, we remember U.S. military personnel who died in service. Historically, infectious diseases posed a greater threat than combat. General George Washington mandated inoculation in 1777. Vaccines developed from the late 18th to mid-20th century countered diseases such as smallpox, typhoid, and influenza in the military. This Memorial Day, we honor their sacrifice and the role of vaccines.
