Are you worried about measles?

Are you less worried because a chiropracter on the Internet told you to stop worrying?
Dr. Baker Says to Stop Worrying About Measles!
I have no idea who “Dr” Baker really is, but let’s take a look at his copypasta “evidence” for why you shouldn’t worry about measles.
- MORE ER visits for kids who receive MMR vaccine – This is about a study, Adverse Events following 12 and 18 Month Vaccinations: a Population-Based, Self-Controlled Case Series Analysis, which found an increased risk for a trip to the ER after getting vaccinated for fever, rash, and febrile seizures, all known mild or moderate vaccine side effects.
- Vaccinated people still GET AND GIVE measles. 97% of kids in this study WERE VACCINATED – Dr. Baker obviously didn’t bother to read this study, Largest measles epidemic in North America in a decade–Quebec, Canada, 2011: contribution of susceptibility, serendipity, and superspreading events. Most of the kids who got measles were unvaccinated!
- The vaccine HARMS MORE THAN DISEASE!! – A link to an anti-vaccine site that talks about package inserts and VAERS reports.
- .15% chance of dying from measles BEFORE THE VACCINE!!! – while that might seem like a small chance, when everyone gets measles, it means that a lot of people end up dying…
- MMR Vaccine insert – Yes! Read the insert!
- Getting measles or mumps protects against death from heart attack or stroke as adult – This one study, Association of measles and mumps with cardiovascular disease: The Japan Collaborative Cohort (JACC) study, based on a questionnaire found an association between having measles and mumps and having a lower risk of mortality from atherosclerotic CVD, but has been criticized.
- Possible links between the MMR vaccine and autism – An older study, Abnormal measles-mumps-rubella antibodies and CNS autoimmunity in children with autism, that was critically flawed – “children with autism didn’t have nerve damage and, according to measles experts, the test that Singh had used to detect measles antibodies didn’t detect them.”
What’s missing from his list?
All of the studies that say that vaccines aren’t associated with autism!
The study, Long-term measles-induced immunomodulation increases overall childhood infectious disease mortality, which found that measles had an affect on non-measles deaths (causing more of them) through “measles-induced immune damage.”
And lots of other evidence that says that the MMR vaccine is safe, effective, and necessary.
If you really don’t want to have to worry about measles, get your kids vaccinated and protected.
Unfortunately, some folks don’t have that option, as their kids might be too young to get vaccinated or might have a true medical contraindication to getting vaccinated.
They have to worry about measles, no matter what “Dr.” Baker says, mostly because of your unvaccinated kids…
