Would Most People Say No to a COVID-19 Vaccine?

Why do some folks think that most people would say no to a COVID-19 vaccine?

If 27% of people said that they are unlikely to get a COVID-19 vaccine, then most said yes to getting vaccinated and protected!
If 27% of people said that they are unlikely to get a COVID-19 vaccine, then most said yes to getting vaccinated and protected!

Maybe because it makes a good story…

Would Most People Say No to a COVID-19 Vaccine?

It certainly isn’t true though.

Take the above headline in the Dallas Morning News.

While the headline clearly states that “Most say no to COVID-19 vaccine,” the actual story says that:

  • 49% are likely to take a COVID-19 vaccine
  • 27% are unlikely to take it
  • 23% are undecided – they are neither likely nor unlikely

Now, someone can check my math, but in their poll, it seems that the overwhelming majority of people are in favor of getting vaccinated and protected – 49% (likely) vs 27% (unlikely).

Hopefully they will issue a correction…

COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy

Are some people skeptical of the COVID-19 vaccines?

Sure, but guess what, none of the COVID-19 vaccines have even been approved yet!

And all people are seeing are stories about how folks are politicizing the COVID-19 vaccine approval process and trying to rush to approve a vaccine before the presidential election.

That plus misinformation and propaganda about COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccines, including conspiracy theories about how they are being made with chips to track us, that they will alter our DNA, or will be used as a method of depopulation, and shouldn’t be any wonder that folks are a little scared.

“It will be tragic if we develop safe and effective vaccines and people refuse to take them.”

Scott C Ratzan MD, MPA on Who will accept a COVID-19 vaccine?

Are folks taking these polls also hearing about all of the things that are being done to ensure that when they are finally approved, our COVID-19 vaccines will be safe and effective?

Will they get a COVID-19 vaccine if Anthony Fauci, Nancy Messonnier, and Anne Schuchat said they were safe and effective?

“That could start by the end of this year, the beginning – January, February, March – of next year, but when you talk about vaccinating a substantial proportion of the population so that you can have a significant impact on the dynamics of the outbreak that very likely will not be until the second or third quarter of the year.”

Dr Fauci: Covid vaccine result could come by end of 2020

Do they understand that they will have plenty of time to decide? After all, even if a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine is approved before the end of the year, it will take time for all of those doses to be manufactured and distributed.

Time for everyone to understand that they will need to say yes to a COVID-19 vaccine, ignoring all of the misinformation and propaganda scaring them away from getting vaccinated and protected if they ever want this pandemic to end.

Time for some of these folks who say they won’t get a COVID-19 vaccine to change their mind.
