Another Chart That Shows Vaccines Work

Want to see another chart that shows vaccines work?

Another chart that shows vaccines work. See how rates of meningococcal C dropped once the MenC vaccine was introduced.
The MenC vaccine was first introduced in the UK in 1999.

If improved hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, or some other factor caused meningococcal C rates to drop, then why didn’t it do the same for menB rates?

Another Chart That Shows Vaccines Work

Anti-vaccine influencers often try to misuse mortality graphs and charts to claim that vaccines don’t work.

“In the United Kingdom, implementation of serogroup C (MenC) meningococcal conjugate vaccine in 1999 led to sustained declines in MenC disease”

Invasive Meningococcal Disease, 2011–2020, and Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic, England

It is easy to see that they are wrong though.

In the UK, as meningococcal vaccines were introduced, the chart shows that rates of meningococcal disease have dropped:

  • MenC vaccine was introduced in 1999
  • MenB vaccine was introduced in September 2015
  • MenACWY vaccine was introduced in August 2015

And so have deaths.

What else?

“The UK MenACWY vaccination programme reduced carriage acquisition of genogroup and serogroup Y and W meningococci and sustained low levels of genogroup C carriage. These data support the use of quadrivalent MenACWY conjugate vaccine for indirect (herd) protection.”

Impact of meningococcal ACWY conjugate vaccines on pharyngeal carriage in adolescents: evidence for herd protection from the UK MenACWY programme

A herd protection effect from the MenACWY vaccine!

And that’s all great news, as you wouldn’t want your kids to get meningococcal disease.
