Why do some people think that the WHO distributed smallpox vaccines that were contaminated with the virus that causes AIDS?

Of course, smallpox vaccines were never contaminated with HIV.

If you are a skeptic and actually do any research about vaccines, you could easily figure that out by simply reading that article in The Times, ‘Smallpox vaccine ‘triggered Aids virus.’

What does it say?

Surprisingly, it does suggest that “The Aids epidemic may have been triggered by the mass vaccination campaign which eradicated smallpox.”

But the article, printed in 1987, in the very early days of the HIV epidemic, doesn’t say that the ‘triggered’ part was from contaminated vaccines.

So no one got “smallpox vaccines tainted with AIDS,” as the Sudden and Unexpected folks posted and Carrie Madej retweeted.

The idea is instead that “immunization with the smallpox vaccine Vaccinia awakened the unsuspected, dormant immuno defence virus infection (HIV).”

If even that were true though, why did the smallpox vaccine that was used for hundreds of years wait so long to trigger the AIDS epidemic?

So basically, all of the posts that you seeing trying to link smallpox vaccines to HIV and AIDS are pure propaganda.

“Since the Soviet press launched its campaign in October, 1985, more than 200 newspaper stories, radio reports and forged documents have surfaced in 74 countries attributing the AIDS epidemic to American military research gone awry, according to U.S. tabulations. This year alone, more than 80 such reports have appeared, about one-third of them in the state-run Soviet media.

Although most non-Soviet stories have appeared in left-wing publications, others that have picked up the thread are the sensational London tabloid Sunday Express and even the staid and prestigious Le Monde in Paris. In addition, government analysts said, Moscow has beamed radio broadcasts to every country where the United States has military bases.”

In this case, propaganda that originated in an AIDS disinformation campaign of the former Soviet Union!

Interestingly, some have suggested that the end of the smallpox vaccination program is what triggered the AIDS pandemic!

What?!?

“Vaccinia immunization, as given to prevent the spread of smallpox, produces a five-fold reduction in HIV replication in the laboratory.”

Did the end of smallpox vaccination cause the explosive spread of HIV?

That theory was not supported by other research though…

Which makes sense, since the origins of HIV date back to before we stopped using the smallpox vaccine.

And since we do have a good understanding of the origins of HIV and AIDS, maybe anti-vaccine influencers will stop trying to blame smallpox vaccines.
