It was the most cases in a single year since 1992, when we had 2,200 cases.

RFK Jr’s CDC is reporting “a total of 2,144 confirmed* measles cases,” including “a total of 25 measles cases were reported among international visitors to the United States.”

Keeping with many early predictions of a big measles year, westarted the year with a big outbreak in Texas!

- five more cases in Oconto County, Wisconsin, raising the total to 9 in this outbreak (Aug 2025)
- an unvaccinated child in Bonner County, Idaho
- an unvaccinated resident of Fulton County, Georgia related to international travel, with exposure at Georgia State University in Atlanta (Sep 2025)
- an outbreak in Colorado City, Arizona has grown to 42 cases, with 21 more cases in neighboring communities in Utah. (Aug to Sept 2025)
- an unvaccinated 4-year-old in Cook County, Illinois, with exposures at O’hare airport (Sept 2025)
- an ongoing outbreak in South Carolina that began in early September and has grown to nearly 200 mostly unvaccinated children
- an ongoing outbreak in Utah that began in early December
So that’s 2,117 cases, a 32 year record, and three deaths…

What if you can’t?
What if you have a true medical exemption to getting the MMR vaccine or your baby is too young to be vaccinated?
Then you should do your best to avoid high risk situations and encourage folks around you to get vaccinated and protected.
