That multiple COVID-19 vaccines might soon be found safe and effective and ready to be distributed to millions of people seems to have rattled more than a few people. That must be why we are starting to see some of these folks pushing the idea that these vaccines trials have already failed, even though they haven’t even finished yet.
But why do they want the COVID-19 trials to fail?

Or maybe a better question might be why do they want you to think we won’t have safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines?

Their main concern?
They don’t think that the initial COVID-19 vaccine trials can prove that the vaccines can prevent severe disease.
Should that be a concern right now?
“The justification of a mild, more common, endpoint as the primary endpoint in vaccine trials would be predicated on the assumption that the benefit of the vaccine on the selected endpoint is reasonably likely to predict clinical benefit for cases of microcephaly or other severe complications.”

Maybe not, when you consider that it takes longer to do trials that focus on severe cases.

But if a COVID-19 vaccine is shown to be safe and effective at preventing “any occurrence of covid-19, not necessarily a severe case,” should we wait until it is shown to also prevent severe cases as the death count continues to rise?
“Typically, the more severe a disease is, the better chance a vaccine has of preventing that disease. So, a vaccine that’s 50% effective against mild COVID disease—which might be the endpoint that’s measured in a clinical trial, or any evidence of COVID infection with any symptom, which is how a lot of trials are designed—might be more effective against severe disease.”

That doesn’t mean we want a rushed vaccine that isn’t safe or that doesn’t work, but we do want things to move along much faster than they usually do.

We don’t need folks like Peter Doshi and Peter C Gøtzsche and others, who have been critical of other vaccines (shouldn’t they have mentioned that in their articles???), scaring everyone about COVID-19 vaccines that haven’t even been approved yet.
